Xiaomi Mi 6 retail box leak hints at 30-megapixel rear camera

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is widely expected to be launched sometime this month. While there have been multiple leaks in the past, for the first time an alleged retail box of the Mi 6 has cropped up online. This box reveals features and specifications of the upcoming smartphone, including the camera. Contrary to previous leaks which hinted at a dual-camera setup at the back, the retail box reveals that there will be a 30-megapixel snapper instead. There definitely seems to be some confusion regarding the rear cameras on the device.

The leaked retail box actually raises more questions than it answers, ahead of the official launch. Is the 30-megapixel rear camera resolution a mix of the dual-cameras, or has Xiaomi developed a special 30-megapixel camera to challenge present flagship devices? Another question raised is whether this leak hints towards a region-specific Mi 6. The camera resolution has surely started quite a debate regarding the Mi 6.

Xiaomi Mi 6 features, specifications

Besides the camera, the rest of the Xiaomi Mi 6 specifications are in line with the previous leaks. The phone will run on Android Nougat out-of-the-box. It is expected to come with a 5.15-inch full HD display, and will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 835 processor. The retail box shows the 128GB internal memory variant of the device, but it is unknown if there will be other versions. The RAM is 6GB. Xiaomi Mi6 will come with a 4,000mAh battery according to the recent leak. The front camera resolution is yet unknown.

After the exit of Hugo Barra, Xiaomi admitted to having overachieved in a short span, increasing further pressure. The brand has already tied up with Foxconn to manufacture smartphones in India under the Make in India scheme. India is proving to be one of the key markets for Xiaomi and the brand is expanding its presence in the country.

Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 4A in India in the entry level segment. The smartphone, priced at Rs 5,999, is a 4G LTE device and runs on Android Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
