Among a bunch of flagship smartphones anticipated this year, Xiaomi Mi 6 ranks quite high. While there have been multiple leaks about the smartphone in question, giving us a fair idea about the device, there is nothing like some information coming right from the horse’s mouth. At the Geek Park Innovation conference on January 15, Xiaomi‘s co-founder and vice president Li Wanqiang revealed some details about the Mi 6, referring it as a “surprise product” to be unveiled in March.
Now, while previous rumors all hinted at an early February launch of the Xiaomi Mi 6, if in fact the company’s vice president was talking about the Mi 6, the device may now be launched in March, GizmoChina reports. That said, there have been reports claiming that Xiaomi could be present at MWC 2017 next month, where it could unveil its flagship device. Wanqiang also seemed to suggest that even the price of the device would follow the Xiaomi tradition, which pitches it in the region of RMB 1,999, which is roughly Rs 20,000.
Xiaomi Mi 6 specifications and features
These two variants of Mi 6 are expected to be dubbed as the Xiaomi Mi 6 and the Xiaomi Mi 6 Pro. The Mi 6 is said to feature an LCD display, while the Mi 6 Pro will come with a curved OLED display. Also, differentiating the two variants, the Mi 6 is said to come with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage and the Mi 6 Pro with 6GB of RAM and 256GB onboard storage.
There have also been reports about the smartphone’s speculated camera unit, which quite expectedly would be a dual-camera setup. However, previously, it was rumored that the Mi 6 would sport a 16-megapixel rear camera with 4K video recording capabilities and dual-tone LED flash. Up front, the smartphone was said to house a 4-megapixel selfie camera.
Also, pricing for both the variants has also been predicted. The Xiaomi Mi 6 with LCD display is said to be priced at RMB 1,999 (Rs 19,700 approximately) and the OLED version could be priced at RMB 2,499 (Rs 24,700 approximately), the former of which falls in line with Xiaomi’s vice president’s hints as well.
Additionally, on the software front, the Mi 6 is said to run on Android 7.0 Nougat wrapped under MIUI OS. The device is believed to be fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery, and could feature USB Type-C support for connectivity. Other than that, the smartphone is said to come with a physical Home button which could double as a fingerprint scanner, and a dual-tone design with metal back.
