Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 Rugged smartphone with Android 7.0 Nougat, IP68 water resistance launched: Price, specifications and features


Following the biennial launch pattern of its rugged smartphones, after 2015, Samsung has announced the successor of the Galaxy XCover 3. In the German edition of Samsung Newsroom has unveiled the Galaxy Xcover 4 yesterday, which will be released in April this year. The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4 has been revealed with the price tag of €259, which translated to about Rs 18,000. So far there is no official word on the exact release date and availability. And the only listed color option for the device is black.

The Xcover series by Samsung is a slightly niché category of devices offered by the company. They are meant to be used for people closely working in rough terrains, and are meant to survive drops, water, dust, and extreme temperatures. The Xcover 4 isn’t a smartphone for everyone, but it does provide an option for those who want to buy a Samsung phone, but don’t need all the bells and whistles that come with Samsung’s premium Galaxy S devices.

Samsung Galaxy XCover 4 specifications and features

It features a features a 4.99-inch (720x1280 pixels) TFT display. The device’s chipset isn’t revealed, but it is known that the processor will be accompanied with 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage, which will be expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card.

For photography, the Galaxy XCover 4 sports a 5-megapixel front camera for video chats and selfies, and a 13-megapixel rear camera, which comes with an integrated flash and has an f/1.9 aperture. The device is fuelled by a 2,800mAh battery. Running on the new Android 7.0 Nougat OS.

Now, talking about the ruggedness of the handset, the Galaxy XCover 4 has IP68 rating, which means the device is water and dust resistant. In addition, it is certified according to the US military standard MIL-STD 810G and can push low or high temperatures, mechanical shocks and vibrations, intense sunlight or salt water mist. Further, considering the conditions the smartphone is meant for, for use in, say high altitudes, it is not only practical but necessary to wear gloves. With the Galaxy Xcover 4 user can also take calls, write messages or use apps on the display with gloves. It can also be operated using the mechanical function keys, which are placed at the bottom of the display for navigation.
