LG G6 MWC invite teases near bezel-less display, curved edges: Specs and features

While we come across rumors about Samsung’s Galaxy S8 every other day, another flagship smartphone that has frequently made it to the rumor mills is the LG G6. The smartphone will be competing against Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S8 and is expected to come with top-end specifications. Considering that the LG G5 was a big flop with its failed modular gimmick which eventually hit LG’s overall revenues, a lot is riding on the G6. The company is expected to launch the G6 on February 26 at a pre-MWC event. While LG has already confirmed the launch date, it has now sent another invite, teasing the smartphone.

The invite features the same homescreen as seen in the previous one, but with a title ‘Big Screen’. The invite further hints at a near-bezel less display, which is now becoming increasingly popular among brands for their premium smartphones. Next to this, a sketch of the display is presented depicting a hand holding the smartphone along with a title ‘That Fits’. There are no dimensions mentioned regarding the display and there are four circles placed on each end. According to rumors, the LG G6 will feature a 5.7-inch QHD+ display which will have a display resolution of 1440×2880 pixels with 564 ppi and an aspect ratio of 18:9. LG says that the display of the G6 will be optimized for multitasking and using dual-screen functions.

In addition to LG’s teaser, cases for the LG G6 have been leaked, thereby giving us a closer look at the design of the smartphone. As spotted by Android Pure, the cases reveal the smartphone from all angles. Comparing to the previous leaks, the LG G6 shown in the latest case renders, are very much similar in design. The front panel is seen housing the selfie camera lens and speaker on top and absence of a Home button on the front, as expected. The antenna bands can be seen on the top and sides of the smartphone.

The rear end of the LG G6 features the dual camera lens sitting on the top center along with the fingerprint scanner located below. Resting on top is the 3.5mm audio jack and down below is the USB Type-C port along with the speaker grille. The volume rocker is placed on the left side of the smartphone, while a SIM slot can be seen located on the left. The LG G6 is further shown sporting the same metal brush finish as seen in the previous leak.

LG G6 specifications and features

The LG G6 had been rumored to be powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset but considering how Samsung has hoarded all the chipsets for the Galaxy S8, it seems unlikely. The LG G6 has also been rumored otherwise to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chipset instead. The smartphone is expected to come with 6GB of RAM, while its storage information is still unknown.

For power, the LG G6 is said to feature a removable battery, and equipped with Quick Charge 4.0 that is claimed to provide power for up to five hours with five minutes of charging. It is also rumored that the smartphone might come with support for wireless charging. The LG G6 is also said to come with IP68-certification making it water-resistant and come with a full metal body.

In terms of pricing, the exact figure is unknown, but there was a report by The Investor, which suggested that LG will price the G6 about 20 percent lower than the G5. However, on the contrary, another WSJ report suggests that LG is expected to price the G6 around the same as the G5, which shuffles around $500 (approximately Rs 34,000) to $600 (approximately Rs 40,000).

While the LG G6 will be officially unveiled on February 26, the smartphone is said to go on sale in its home country as early as March 9. It is also reported that the smartphone will be available in the US on April 7. Details about its global launch are still unknown.
