Samsung Exynos 9 series chipset teased, will possibly power Galaxy S8, S8 Plus

Like there wasn’t enough mystery around the Galaxy S8 already, Samsung has sprinkled a little more riddle around it. The Samsung Exynos Twitter account has recently tweeted a teaser for the Exynos 9 series chipset, with a coming soon disclaimer on it. And considering few leaks in the past and the beautiful timing of this teaser, it would not entirely be wrong to assume that this new Exynos chipset may power the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.

Looking at the earlier trends, Samsung is expected to power the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus with both Qualcomm’s and its own Exynos chipset, which will vary according to markets. Although, until now all the speculation pointed at the Exynos 8895 powering the flagships, but with the teaser of the Exynos 9 series at this time, the game seems to be changing.

Now, again, this is just like putting the pieces of the puzzle together, but we will know the real picture only when Samsung reveals it, which would be sometime in late March. However, if rumors are to be believed, Samsung is going to show a one-minute teaser of the Galaxy S8 at the MWC 2017, which kicks off on February 27. In addition to that, Samsung is also going to announce the official launch date of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus at the event. Samsung will be holding a press event a day before the MWC kicks off, which is February 26. We will be at the event, so stay tuned to catch up on the dirt!

But, till that happens, let’s catch you up with the last leak that we came across regarding the device. So from what we know so far, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will feature a dual-curved edge display. The front panel will have a nearly bezel-less design, sans the home button, with the fingerprint sensor placed at the back. While earlier, some reports hinted at Samsung dropping the 3.5mm audio jack, but most of the recent leaks have suggested that the device would retain the headphone jack.

In terms of specifications, Samsung will be announcing a smaller Galaxy S8 with a 5.8-inch QHD display and a larger variant, Galaxy S8+ with a 6.2-inch QHD display. Both the variants will have Super AMOLED display. Under the hood, the Galaxy S8 will have Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage while the Galaxy S8+ is expected to house 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Like mentioned earlier, the alternate chipset has till now been speculated to be Exynos 8895, but now we aqre playing our bets on the new Exynos 9 series.

For photography, the Galaxy S8 is likely to feature a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.7 aperture, along with an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies. While the Galaxy S8 will be powered by a 3,250mAh battery, the larger variant could be fuelled by a 3,750mAh battery. The smartphone is expected to come with USB Type-C support, which is also confirmed in the new set of leaked renders. Other expected features include built-in Bixby – Samsung’s own digital assistant, and an iris scanner.
