Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 leaked renders hint at dual-edge curved display

Samsung’s rumored Galaxy Tab S3 may be able to finally see the light of the day in the first quarter of 2017. First rumored to be released back in September last year, the tablet is now expected to be announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Successor to last year’s Galaxy Tab S2, the tablet has now been detailed in latest renders. Based on the sketches, it looks like Samsung is attempting to bring its most-loved innovation — dual-edge curved display — onto the tablet.

The Galaxy Tab S3, as shown in comparison to what looks an image from the company’s FCC filing for its S tablet series, reveals key changes in design. According to the renders, the Galaxy Tab S3 features a front and back panel which is slightly different than its predecessor. On the front, the tablet is expected to sport a Galaxy S7 edge-like spilling display. If the renders hold true, then we might be looking at what could possibly complement the upcoming Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone in terms of design language.

A report on SlashGear notes that with a dual-edge curved display design, Samsung could finally be moving at stirring up the stagnant tablet market and also move away from a rather regular design it has been using since years.

Now, looking at this tablet, you’ll notice it has four physical buttons, and the home key below the display is nowhere to be found. The tablet’s volume keys are placed on the left-hand side of this tablet, while the power key is located on the right. You’ll also notice that there’s another key on the right-hand side of this tablet, and this could be the rumored Bixby button which could be used to activate Samsung’s AI assistant, Bixby.

Samsung recently sent out media invites for its upcoming MWC 2017 conference showing just a teaser silhouette of what appears to be the tablet in question. Earlier this week, Galaxy Tab S3 had been spotted on the FCC certification website, indicating that an official launch is inevitable.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 specifications and features

The Galaxy Tab S3 could feature a 9.6-inch AMOLED display offering 2048×1536 pixels resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio. With spilling edges and a large size, this might actually make for an exceptional viewing experience.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Tab S3 is likely to have Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB/128GB internal storage. Some reports indicate that it could come powered by a Snapdragon 652 chipset with Adreno 510 GPU. The tablet is further speculated to come with a 12-megapixel rear camera along with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for video-calling. It is expected to run the latest Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box.

In terms of connectivity, the tablet is expected to be a Type-C-based device, offer WiFi and Bluetooth support, and also come with a fingerprint sensor embedded in the front home button. It is rumored to come fuelled with a 5,870mAh battery. An LTE+Wi-Fi variant is also expected.
