Samsung Galaxy S8 Said to go on sale on april 21, LG G6 on march 10

We are just a couple of days away from MWC 2017 event which takes place in Barcelona. Like every year, there’s a lot of excitement as brands such as LG, Lenovo, Motorola, Sony among others will be launching their new smartphones. Nokia is also making its much-needed comeback and is expected to launch four new devices. From what we already know, LG will be unveiling its upcoming flagship smartphone, the G6, on February 26. Samsung, on the other hand, is reportedly holding a separate event on March 29 in New York to unveil the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones. Now, a new report sheds light on when the new smartphones will go in sale.

According to an ETNews report, the LG G6 will go on sale starting March 10, which is around 12 days after the official unveiling on February 26. Pre-orders for the same are expected to start on March 2. The report also says the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ could go on sale starting April 21. While there is no word on when the pre-orders may start, judging by what the company has done in the past, it may start on April 13, which is eight days before the release date.

LG G6 Specifications and Features

Ahead of the official launch, LG has been teasing various features of its upcoming G6 smartphone. The company has already mentioned that the G6 will sport a unique 5.7-inch QHD+ display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. The smartphone is likely to sport a truly bezel-less display as possible. LG has also revealed that the G6 will come with a unique user interface (UI) to take the advantage of the display.

Another revelations from the company include a dual 13-megapixel rear camera setup with 125-degree field of view and a flat back with no camera bump. Unlike last year’s G5, the cameras on the G6 will work in tandem. The camera app will also let you choose from various shooting modes, including 1:1 mode for clicking Instagram phones. It will also include a 360-degree mode and a food mode for those who are obsessed with clicking photos of food that they eat. For selfie lovers, a 12-megapixel selfie camera is expected to be in tow.

On the specifications front, the LG G6 may disappoint some users as the company is expected to opt for Snapdragon 821 SoC due to shortage of the new Snapdragon 835 SoC. Not the Snapdragon 821 is bad, but considering it’s a flagship smartphone, the G6 will already be a generation behind at the time of launch. It could be paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB storage options. To keep thing ticking, the smartphone will be fuelled by a 3,200mAh removable battery with Quick Charging feature.

The LG G6 is also set to feature a 32-bit Quad DAC for superior audio performance, and IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. One of the rumors doing the rounds is the G6 could be one of the first non-Pixel smartphones to come with Google Assistant.

Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+ Specifications and Features

Even though Samsung has tried to keep details about the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones under the wraps, the leaks just don’t stop pouring. From what we have learned so far, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ could sport 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD displays respectively. Both are expected to be dual edge curved displays. Based on the leaked photos we have come across so far, Samsung has done away with the physical home button on the front along with the capacitive touch buttons for navigation. Instead, the new smartphones will now feature on-screen Android navigation buttons. One downside of this layout is that the fingerprint sensor will be on the rear and judging from the leaked renders, its location does not seem to be very user-friendly.

Talking about the chipset, both smartphones will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC or Samsung’s home brewed Exynos 8895 SoC, depending on the region. The Galaxy S8 is expected to be paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. The Galaxy S8+ on the other hand, is expected to feature 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage.

For photography, contrary to earlier reports suggesting dual rear cameras setup, the new Samsung smartphones are expected to sport a 12-megapixel dual pixel rear camera. Up front, the smartphones could house an 8-megapixel selfie camera with auto-focus feature.

Just like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, the new smartphones are also expected to feature a heart rate sensor, and water and dust resistance. What’s more, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ could also feature Bixby personal assistant, just like Google Assistant on Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. On the software front, both smartphones are likely to run on Android 7.1 Nougat out-of-the-box with a layer of TouchWiz UI on top.
