MWC 2017 live stream: LG G6 launch to kick off at 4:30 PM(IST)

The biggest tech event of the year, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017, kicks off tomorrow, and there is so much catching up to do before that happens. One of the most awaited launches at the event, will come from LG’s way. The South Korean giant will be launching its flagship smartphone LG G6 and a couple of mid-range smartphones at the event. To catch the event live, you can tune in to LG’s YouTube channel, which begins at 4.30 PM IST on February 26, Sunday.

Talking first about the LG G6, from a little bit that came from LG itself, and from a bit more that came from multiple leaks and rumors, there is a handful we know about the device by now. The first big thing, after the sad failure of the modular LG G5, the G6 will be dropping the modular design. Now let’s recall what has been understood as the highlight of the device till now.

Based on a recently launched teaser by LG, the G6 will have rear and front cameras with wide field-of-view. By far, we know that there will be a dual rear camera setup with a combination of two 13-megapixel cameras. According to LG, one of the two rear cameras will have a 125-degree wide-angle lens, which is close to what a human eye perceives thus allowing one to shoot almost what they see in a given field of view. Additionally, there will be a variety of shooting modes including 18:9 ratio – for full width of the screen and 1:1 – the ideal square ratio for Instagram posts. Other modes include panorama and food mode.

In terms of front-facing camera, all that can be derived from the teaser is that it will have a 100-degree field-of-view. If earlier reports are to be considered, the LG G6 will boast a 12-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling.

Another high point of the device would be LG G6’s display, which the company has been teasing using a tagline ‘Big Screen’. Betting big on the display of the G6, LG had announced the smartphone will feature a 5.7-inch QHD+ (2,880×1,440 pixels) “FullVision” display with a unique aspect ratio of 18:9. This aspect ratio almost entirely takes up the front panel of the smartphone. As explained by LG, the UX 6.0 maximizes the benefits of the “FullVision” display as it provides an expanded top and bottom that further allow viewing of more information when browsing the internet, reading e-books, and more. This feature also makes 16:9 ratio content easily viewable on the 18:9 format.

LG G6 specifications and features

Besides, the LG G6 is likely to boast a premium-looking brushed metal unibody design with rounded corners and a rear fingerprint sensor. It appears to feature an always-on display and have dust and water resistance capabilities. Under the hood, the LG G6 is expected to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of internal storage.

The smartphone is expected to be fuelled by a 3,200mAh battery which is expected to last about 12 hours on standard use. Other features include 32-bit Quad DAC for audio, and on the software front, the LG G6 is expected to run Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box with UX 6.0 layered above.
