Xiaomi has added a new smartphone to its Redmi 4 portfolio, called the Redmi 4X. The Redmi 4X is the latest smartphone to join the long line of Xiaomi’s budget smartphones and would essentially be the successor to the Redmi 3X, which was launched last year. While the highly anticipated flagship smartphone Mi 6 is still in the works, Xiaomi has been busy with launching smartphones in the budget category. The Redmi 4X is accompanied by the Mi 5c, which is powered by the company’s first in-house Surge S1 processor.
In terms of looks, the Redmi 4X features a unibody metal design. It also houses a fingerprint sensor on the back. The smartphone’s speaker grille is placed at the bottom, a change we saw with the Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi has also played around with colors this year with the introduction of Cherry Pink and Matte Black. Along with these two colors, the Redmi 4X will be available in Champagne Gold as well.
The Redmi 4X will be available in two variants in terms of RAM and storage. The Redmi 4X with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage is priced at 699 Yuan (Rs 6,790 approximately) and the 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage variant is priced at 899 Yuan (Rs 8,730 approximately). The smartphone has been launched for the China market and there’s no information on whether the smartphone will make it the Indian market.

As for the rest of the specifications, the Redmi 4X features a 5-inch HD display with 2.5D curved glass on top. At the core of the smartphone it runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 435 octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and paired with Adreno 505 GPU. The storage on the Redmi 4X comes with the option of expanding it further up to 128GB via a microSD card. In the photography department, the Redmi 4X sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 5P lens, PDAF and LED flash. Up front, the smartphone houses a 5-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture.
The connectivity options available on the Redmi 4X include dual-SIM support (Hybrid SIM slot), 4G LTE with VoLTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. Keeping the phone ticking is a 4,100mAh battery which is claimed to offer up to 15 hours of continuous video playback, 2 days of usage and up to 18 hours on standby mode. On the software front, the Redmi 4X runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow based MIUI 8.
